LUAU DRESSES REVEALED!

This is crunch week. The week before the Luau is always crazy and I thought I was out of trouble this year because Kuulei said everyone could recycle their costumes.
Except they couldn't. Turns out girls (and women) grow.
Yesterday I had to sew three dresses and two sashes, AND paint Rachel's skirt. I stayed up until 2:30 on Tuesday night, then got up at 07:00 on Wednesday (yesterday) and sewed all day.

This is how I painted the fabric for Rachel's skirt. These squares are eight inches and I painted THIRTY of them!!! That is SIX YARDS! Now I have to wait for it to cure and then sew it into a skirt that looks somthing like this: and I have to sew Rachel a sash too.

Three dresses that I had to make this week are like these orange and red ones (top for the orange, bottom for the red behind Rachel). They all have to be fitted to the person wearing them. They take just about 4 - 5 hours to sew. The other one was a blue mu'umu'u like shown in the top picture. (And I think I sewed nearly every costume (except the ugly or wrongly made ones) in these pictures, by the way.)

  1. You amaze me!! I couldn't sew that much to save my life--I can barely sew on a button. I love all the cute dresses, and the pattern you painted for Rachel's skirt is really cool! Can't wait to see the finished skirt!!
As for girls' camp--wow! Your re-enactment pictures tell the story pretty well, and not to laugh while you're down, but...well, you said it was hilarious:) Thanks for sharing, and hope your wounds heal quickly!!

  2. Funny, funny!
    You are a nice Mom!
That injury to your knee may preclude you from tracting :)
Sounds like you need some R & R in St Louis!
I look forward to seeing all your finished dresses.

  4. Oh my gosh Tifani!!!! I could see it all in my head (the fall that is). I was laughing soooo hard. My husband kept asking me, "what is sooo funny"? I wish we lived closer so that we could hang out. I bet people laugh 24-7 around you. Anyways.....you are so talented too. I know I tell you that all the time, but I am truly impressed with the things you can make. I love the blocks that you painted and sewed together. When it comes time to make costumes for my hubby to perform in....I'm going to contact you (and of course we would pay)! Funny and Talented......Geeze your lucky!!

  5. Beautiful costumes! Looking at those pictures was like being back in Hawaii.

Your tripping down the hill was hilarious. I can picture it, and it makes me laugh.

Our girls' camp starts in 25 days.

  6. What a funny story! I really was laughing cuz I could just picture a cooler smacking you in the head! Good times!
To answer your question: I'm (me and only me!) going to Italy to pick up my sister from her mission. I'm going with my parents and sisters. My dad served his mission there too and has never been back. We are also going to France and England since my mom served in England and has never been back! We're leaving soon, but I don't like to blog about it since my blog is public!! Barbara is watching the girls and Shawn will just go to work as usual! We just couldn't afford having both of us go and he'd rather go to Brazil anyway!

  7. It's no wonder you have been too busy to talk.
I am glad you had Charmaine and Julie to help you laugh about your fall. The bruise does look rather painful. You all a huge dorks for re-enacting them. I wish I could have been there to laugh with you.
I am glad you made the salad and got the costumes done. Now breathe a sigh of relief and come visit me.

  10. Ok, now you sound more and more like me.... that is something that I would do and I would be the one laughing hysterically until I wet myself, or was able to get it under control... Goodness me. How funny.

  11. Hee-larious! I love, love, love that you reenacted the falls! That is SO something I would do. (I also would have fallen...I'm pretty clumsy.)

Okay, was this the same post with all the dresses? What the heck?! I can't believe you sewed all those dresses! And that you PAINTED the tapa! WOW! Very impressive. You are a much, much better woman (and mom) than I. I am humbled to be in your presence (on this blog). ;-)
